Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 8.0, Java Edition, Beta Release is Now Available

Berkeley, CA, September 21, 2017—Tom Sawyer Software, the global leader in graph and data visualization and analysis technology, announces the beta release of Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 8.0, Java Edition. This release contains two new visualization solutions that address complex challenges for enterprises and government agencies. Version 8.0 delivers web-based, automated business process modeling, execution, and administration (BPM), and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) for desktop and web users.

Tom Sawyer Perspectives is an enterprise software development platform for building graph and data visualization and analysis applications to realize immediate value from connected data. This release features a new architecture that further supports enterprise-wide implementation.

New Tom Sawyer Business Process Solution

Tom Sawyer Business Process solution helps complex organizations design, standardize, and continuously improve their business processes.

Tom Sawyer Business Process Solution includes three modules:

• Business Process Administration
• Business Process Modeling
• Business Process Execution

The graphical design studio gives modelers the ability to rapidly prototype, construct, and publish validated processes. The application complies with the Object Modeling Group BPMN 2.0 standard for business process modeling.

Designers can work on improvements to processes without interrupting currently running versions of those processes.

New Tom Sawyer Model-Based Engineering Solution

Tom Sawyer Model-Based Engineering helps complex organizations digitize and automate their model-based engineering diagrams.

This new solution offers three main features:

• Completely automated data integration between Tom Sawyer Perspectives and MagicDraw and Teamwork Cloud from No Magic. This integration gives systems engineers and architects automated creation, rearranging, and validation of MBSE diagrams. Without diagram automation, engineers spend up to 80 percent of their time rearranging and maintaining diagrams.
• Web and desktop views of interactive diagrams. Views foster enterprise-wide collaboration and aid in documenting processes and decisions for auditing and compliance.
• SysML compliance. The solution provides specialized layout for eight of nine standard SysML diagram types:
  • Activity diagram
  • Block definition diagram
  • Internal block diagram
  • Package diagram
  • Parametric diagram
  • Requirements diagram
  • State machine diagram
  • Use case diagram

Enhanced Graph and Data Visualization

The Graph and Data Visualization solution includes the following enhancements:

• New automated swimlane diagrams
• New integrated node growth model
• Modern Spring architecture

Automated Swimlane Diagrams

Swimlane diagrams combine the logic of a flow chart with the accountability of an action item list. They show what person, role, or entity is responsible for each step in a process. Automated swimlane diagrams in Tom Sawyer Perspectives eliminate hours of repetitive labor by automatically rearranging and updating content to accommodate changes in people, processes, and presentations.

Integrated Node Growth Model

This release continues Tom Sawyer Software’s leadership in intelligent layout. Innovations include:

• Orthogonal layout that reduced occasional label overlap
• Connectors that will grow automatically if more than one edge attaches to them
• Slope-end routing for edges that attach to connectors
• New connector positioning on a specific node side, outside of the node, on the node border, or inside the node

Modern Java Architecture

Version 8.0, Java Edition now uses a modular Spring architecture. The Spring architecture’s modular approach makes Tom Sawyer Perspectives more extensible and configurable.
